Origins of the Otterman Family
Origins of the Otterman Family of Rainham
Township is a view of each generation from the initial ancestor so far
discovered, Johann Herman OTTERMANN (ca 1690 to ca 1759) to the 5th Generation
Frederick OTTERMAN (1849 to 1938). The story traces the family's journey in
search of opportunity from Munchweiler An der Alsenz, Rockenhausen,
Rhineland-Pfalz, Germany to Rainham Township, Haldimand County, Ontario, Canada
where a farm was purchased and stone homestead built in the 1850s. The property
and homestead remained in the family for 173 years. The origins of the
pertinent female lines are included adding much to the historical perspective
of the work. Those lines include BABION, JUNT, NABLO and SMELSER.
